Wedding Planning 101

May 26th, 2010

Wonder why there’s been no post lately? It’s because of all this wedding planning.

When I was a kid I always thought I knew how I wanted my wedding. After about three years of dating Adam I even looked into this whole wedding thing a lot more. I have to say that it is NOTHING like I thought it would be.

It’s WORK!

It’s fun, but it’s work. For some reason I thought everything I wanted was just going to happen. I was SO wrong.

To start things off, I really wanted to get married in April. Guess what? My church doesn’t marry at all in April. There that idea goes.  Then I decide to do May 7th but I can’t book any vendors until I get approved from the church. I was very worried about this – I didn’t NOT want to get approved. Fortunately, we did and May 7th is our date.

Right after I got my date, I had to grab my favorite photographer.  This is the one part that has gone oh so right so far. I contacted Amy Carroll and she was available on my day! There was no need to meet up with her or give her a call, I knew I already loved everything about her. She was my friends photographer last year and I LOVED every single photo. She is not only the coolest, most stylish and most talented person, she also made my friends day that much better. She has an amazing personality that is completely worth her price.

You all really need to visit her website here -

I wasn’t able to get the hall I wanted – they were already booked. I have now learned to just take things as they come.

The most important thing is that I’m going to marry the love of my life and I’m going to have fabulous picture to document the day.

The Manistee Trip – Part Three (Last Part)

May 19th, 2010

So, at long last, our trip had to be over at some time. We were sad to go. The cabin had so much more meaning to us now. We arrived there as a boy and a girl who had been dating for five years and left engaged. It’s hard to say that this wasn’t the best weekend of my life. I had Adam all to myself.

The months to come are going to be stressful, fun, exciting and memorable. I can’t wait to experience it all.

I will now leave you with the photos taken the last day of our trip – the first day of our engagement.

Adam took this lovely photo of a butterfly that stopped to say hello.

Although it was pretty cold right next to lake Michigan, we had to take a stroll.

I LOVED that imprints that the waves made in the sand. SO pretty.

There is SO much beauty in Michigan. I love this place.

I just had to get a picture of the exposed roots from these trees. I think they look super cool.

I thought this log look prehistoric so I just had to snap one (or fifty) photos of it.

Super cool bird. He/She was diving in and out of the water the whole time we were there.

Just another little piece of beauty that Michigan offered that day.

Literally the only photo of the two of us from this trip. Guess I’ll have to wait until we can get some engagement photos done.

Adam and his Northern Pike! I thought this thing was HUGE! He looked mean too.

I am seriously going through Manistee/Adam withdraws. I can’t wait to go back up in the years to come with my soon to be hubby!!

The Engagement Story

May 18th, 2010

So, being a girl, I’ve always wondered when I would be getting engaged. After I started dating Adam I thought about it more and then in the past two years it’s almost always been on my mind. The when, the where, the how.

I met Adam when I was a sophomore in college. We started dating about two months after we met and as they say, the rest is history.

On Friday, May 7th Adam went to my parents to ask permission to marry me. The three of them then went to my Godfather (and jeweler) to purchase my ring. The fact that he did all this with my parents means more then he will ever know. I am the only girl. I am the baby. I know this has to be hard on both of them because a lot of changes will be happening. In their eyes I am still their little five year, old curly-haired girl playing in the backyard. BUT I am KNOW that they love Adam and know that I will always be their little girl.

Anyways … For Adam’s graduation I took him to Manistee for some relaxation and for some good fishing. Little did I know that he had something up his sleeve.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday he would be making weird comments about getting engaged and such, that really, just annoyed me. In my mind I was saying that he shouldn’t be talking like this if he didn’t indeed to do it.

On Sunday he was really trying to get me to bait my own hook with a worm. For those of you who know me, I HATE getting my hands and nails dirty. This doesn’t mean I’m a princess and hate the outdoors, it just means I hate dirt under my nails.

I kept telling him no and that I really didn’t need to do it myself (I mean come on, isn’t that what he’s there for).

Finally, on Sunday night, he told me he didn’t think I could do it. So, of course, I got up and went to the lake and grabbed my fishing pole. He proceeded to grab the camera because he wanted to document me baiting the hook.

I go up to where the bait box is and, surprisingly,  open it to find the most amazing ring I have ever seen. I was seriously in shock. I couldn’t move. I didn’t know what to do. I was SO overcome with so many emotions that I just stood there with my mouth open.

Once I came to and could hear, I understood that Adam was asking me to marry him. I am ALMOST positive he didn’t really need to ask me that question but he did and I said yes.

The thing that is making me smile continuously is not the ring, it’s the fact that there is somebody in this world that wants to spend the rest of their life with me.

I couldn’t be more happy. Adam is the love of my life and I get to spend the rest of mine with him.

Let the wedding planning began!

Graduation/Manistee Vacation – Part One

May 17th, 2010

I know it’s been over a week now since I’ve had my last blog post. For this I’m sorry. I have been SO busy in the last week that I haven’t had much time for anything really.

For all those who don’t know, I’M ENGAGED!!! This blog post won’t be about the engagement yet, but it’s why I’ve been so busy.

*Side note – just now, as I’m writing this, a spider was crawling on my glasses. I could not be more terrified.*

Anyways, so yes, I’m engaged to the most wonderful guy. This will be another blog post later on this week.

This blog post is going to be on that wonderful guys graduation and our first day in Manistee, MI.

I took him to Manistee for his graduation present and I think he more then enjoyed it.  Although the weather was cold, we managed to get a lot of fishing in and a lot of time together. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better time away with him.

Here are a few of the first images from his graduation and from our trip. More to come soon!!

Adam and his mama before heading off to graduation.

Now one with Adam, his mom and his step-dad Tom.

Now one with his future in-laws!

And we can’t forget his future Bride :)

It was really rainy and stormy the day we got into Manistee but it made for some cool looking water!

We are finally to Mann’s Sleepy Hallow!

Start the fishing right away!

Adam was able to catch a lot more then me. I actually didn’t catch a thing.

Love this picture of Adam and the first fish caught.

I think I look like a professional – now that I have my OWN fishing license and everything.

This was a sad story – when I cast the line, the whole pole went into the water. I guess I don’t know my own strength.

Here I am reeling it in.

Now it’s time for a little nature walk by Lake Michigan.

The engagement blog post soon to come!!

Out of Town!!

May 6th, 2010

Hey Everyone! I wanted to let everyone know that I will be out of town and away from my computer until I get back on May 12th.

My boyfriend is graduating with his masters tomorrow and I couldn’t be more proud! To honor this special occasion I am going to be an amazing girlfriend and take him up north for a fishing trip! I’m am beyond excited to spend this time with him!

BECAUSE a post is never complete without some photos, here are some from girls weekend up north last year!

Downtown Manistee … I can’t wait!!

This trip is mainly going to be a fishing trip and I plan to catch this many fish and them being at least twice this size. I totally can do it.

I’m not really the out-door type, but I try to be. Here I am cutting down some dead trees for our bonfire! My boyfriend said I could be on the Paris Hilton reality show; I think he’s just jealous about how good I look cutting down trees.

Aren’t my mommy and I just the cutest? Here we are standing out on the dock!

I have the best family a girl could ask for. This was such a fun trip! What happens at the cabin, stays at the cabin!

I cannot wait to get out of town and relax for awhile. If you need to get a hold of me, email me and I will email back on the 12th! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!

Oh, and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY MOM!! I promise that we will do something when I get back!

My Wish for You

April 25th, 2010

I want you to always laugh – cry but laugh more. Be healthy and strong. Be who you want to be and do what you want to do. Find the beauty in everything around you. Be kind to everyone even when everyone else is not. Love. Love everything and everybody. Love with your whole being and you’ll be happy. As long as you love, everything else will follow.

This weekend Adam and I were able to spend some quality time with my niece Julia. We were also able to see Gabby but Julia was our main focus for the day. Julia is being the best big sister to Gabby but for any two year old, it’s hard to see the baby getting attention when it use to be all about her. Therefore, Adam and I thought it would be a good idea to take her out on a special date.

ICE CREAM!!! (Yes, I was excited about this too)

She loved it. When we went to pick her up she was extremely excited. When we got to the ice cream place she was having a hard time deciding what to get and going back and forth between everything. She ended up with vanilla ice cream with cake, fudge, m&ms’s and gummy worms on top.  First bite? Mmmmmmmmm. That’s what Guernsey’s ice cream will do to you.

Julia amazes me with everything she does and says. She is learning her mannors and thanked Adam and myself for the ice cream. She then said that she would really love to play with us at my house. How can we turn down such an offer? Well, we couldn’t. We got her all cleaned up and back in the car. On to the play room.

Of course I used this opportunity to take out my camera and snap a few pics of the cutest “almost” three year old out there. I also took the opportunity to use my video feature on my Nikon and I must say, it’s pretty cool.

Adam giving her more candy – like she needed anything else after that ice cream.

She was worried I was going to tell Adam to stop giving her candy.

LOVE those eyes. They get me every time.

Nope, she didn’t have any chocolate at all.

She loves her books, esp. the bug book!

Love this. A favorite for sure.

Just a Little Fun

April 20th, 2010

The other day I was showing Adam how to use my D40 (since he is my assistant).

We took a lot of nature shots but then got into some portraits. All the photos you see here are taken by Adam and also edited by him. I think he’s doing a great job and I will post more later!

Don’t make fun of how I look! This was completely impromptu and I wasn’t ready!

Great Job Babe! Love you!

The Trip of a Lifetime

April 14th, 2010

I graduated from Michigan State University in May of 2007. In September of that same year I took a cross country trip with my parents. We started in Michigan and made our way to California.

A lot of people don’t get along with their parents as well as I do, so to some, spending day in and day out in a car with both parents could be a nightmare. It was the exact opposite for me. I felt this trip bonded me and my parents more then I could have imagined. We had a BLAST!

We took turns driving, stopping wherever we wanted. I had just graduated and didn’t have a job yet and both my parents are retired; we had all the time in the world. This was a trip that would most likely never happen again and I knew this. I took full advantage of this. Not many people get to take a month and travel the country.

I couldn’t imagine making this trip with anyone other then my parents. It was amazing in so many ways that I can’t even begin to describe it.

Here are some highlights through my good Ole point and shoot!

Packed and ready to go! Gone for the month of September!

First stop: Mississippi River!

Next up – Salt Lake City

Last stop before San Francisco: Truckee, CA – We LOVED it here. We could have spent days and days here but we had a wedding to get to!

Finally made it to our destination: San Fran!

One of the best parts? Getting to see my brother!

The reason we traveled! My cousin’s wedding!

Had to go see the Golden Gate Bridge.

Napa Valley was next on our list.

L.A. and Santa Monica was the next stop on our adventure.

My family minus my brother Derek. Wish that he and Cat could have come but since they just had Jewels it was impossible.

The trip clearly wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t make a stop in VEGAS!!

This had to have been my favorite part of the trip. What a fun city! We also got to live it up in the Venetian!

The Grand Canyon was UNbelievable. Something everyone needs to see before they die.

AZ was amazing to say the least.

The red rocks in AZ was our last big stop. What a fabulous view!

We’re going on three years since I had this trip with my parents and it still crosses my mind almost everyday. This was a once in a lifetime experience that I will always remember.

Perfect Wedding Thanks for the info, I check up on a few blogs on a daily basis but I will be bookmarking yours and dropping in often. Also, I like the layout you have on this site, it makes it easy to find what I am looking for and doesnt distract me to the point that I have to leave,. Did you style your comments like this or is this how your theme was setup originally?
Tourism Guide I just wanted to say that I found your web site via Goolge and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to bookmark you for when I have more free time away from the books. Thanks again!

Oh the Life of a Cat

April 13th, 2010

A few days ago we got a scare from our Cat – she was sick – very sick. We honestly thought that we were going to have to put her to sleep.

BUT – it’s true what they say, Cat’s really do have nine lives. We’ve had Precious for about 16 years and she was about 4ish when she came to us.

She has survived crashing down a Christmas tree (with the help of an iguana and dog). She has survived swallowing a needle – that one was really iffy.  She has survived being outside, de-clawed with a raging neighbor Cat for a night – she just came back the next day with a bird in her mouth.

It’s easy to say that this Cat has nine lives and I really hope she has another nine because she has become a close family member to us all.

After Seven LONG Days…

April 12th, 2010

I finally got to see my nieces again!

Poor little Jewels was still as sick as a dog but Gabby looked to be doing pretty well. I haven’t taken too many photos of Gabby yet (you probably think I’ve taken too many) so I took yesterday as an opportunity to let everyone see her cute little personality that she’s growing into.

She’s insanely cute and sweet – not that I’m bias or anything.

She has gotten so big in just a matter of a few days!

Love her surprise look!

I mean seriously, it doesn’t get much cuter.

LOVE that we can get her to smile now!!

Poor J-Bird – Still sick but playing her little heart out.

LOVE LOVE LOVE these girls

Carroll B. Merriman It’s often so difficult for us to determine when a child has advanced from one stage to another, for instance, from a newborn to an infant
